Greeting ceremonies

People have more greeting ceremonies than other primates. In the time of the hunter/gatherers, the hunters would leave the camp and come back with their catch. Other primates almost always stay together in a group, so they are not in need of more greeting ceremonies.

Ways of greeting

  • Raise eyebrows
  • Tilt head backwards
  • Smile
  • Nod
  • Shake hands
  • Wave (different ways)
  • Hugging (different ways)
  • Kissing (different ways)
  • Rubbing noses together Mãori Hongi Greeting
  • Bringing face to cheeks
